MEET OUR COACHES 
Tim McCune-Head Coach
Tim McCune graduated from
Coach McCune is entering his 21st season at the helm of the Mustangs. His record is 353-234. During this time his teams have appeared in the state playoffs 14 times. On 4 occasions (1992, 1995, 1998, and 1999) the Mustangs have reached the Regional Finals (State Quarterfinals). With six district championships, Coach McCune has been selected District Coach of the Year on four occasions and the DFW Coach of the Year in 1992. From 1990-2009, 81 former Mustangs have gone on to play in college and/or at the professional level.
Coach McCune was selected to be the 5A coach for the north squad in the 2006 Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association All-Star game in Round Rock. In 2007 he was selected to coach the west squad in the North Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association All-Star game in
Coach McCune served as Regional Director for the THSBCA from 1994-1996. He also served as Treasurer for the NTHSBCA from 2004-2006. Each summer he directs the Mustang Baseball Camp.
Coach McCune has taught math for 24 years and currently teaches Algebra II. He lives in Trophy Club with his wife Debbie and their 11 year old daughter Molly.
Coach McCune’s coaching philosophy evolves around each player reaching his potential. He measures success in the words of John Wooden, “peace of mind that is the direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing that you did your best to become the best you are capable of becoming”.
Rick Miller-Varsity Assistant Coach
Rick Miller calls El Paso, Texas, his hometown. He began playing baseball in California and later in Tempe, Arizona where as a senior at McClintock High School, he played first base and led his team in hits. He went on to Arizona State University while living in Tempe and graduated in 1984 with a B. of A. in Education and later, 1999, he received his Master of Education from Sul Ross University in Alpine, Texas. Coach Rick Miller began his coaching career in 1985 at El Paso Hanks High (1985 - 1989) and became head coach at El Paso High (1990 - 1992) and later at Bel Air High School (1993-2003). Coach Miller has been a 5A head coach for 14 years (1990-2003). His career accomplishments include 215 5A wins and a record of 191-117-5 during his tenure as head coach at Bel Air. His Bel Air teams were District Champions in 2001 and Bi-District Champions in 1995, 1997, 1998, and 1999. His 2000 team was ranked 8th in the state. Notable accomplishments also include being selected as the Coach of the Year in 1995 and 1999 by the El Paso Times. Coach Rick Miller and his wife, Dianna, have two children: a daughter, Alece, 21 years old, and a son, Brandon, 17 years old. Coach Miller states his goals as, “It is my desire to be a top educator and positively influence the lives of the young people entrusted to me. I expect my student athletes to develop a strong work ethic that will serve them well in the future”.

Wesley Hunter practically grew up in dugouts and on the sidelines with his father, a high school baseball and football coach for 37 years (now retired). In 1991 and 1992 Wesley’s dad won state championships back-to-back in baseball at

Robert Mendoza-Assistant Coach

Robert Mendoza was born and raised in El Paso, Texas where he played football, basketball, and baseball at Bel Air High School. While at Bel Air, he was named MVP of district 2-5A in 2001, All City Selection (2 years), All State selection, and El Paso Times Hall of Fame Inductee. An interesting fact is that he played baseball for Coach Rick Miller for 4 years. After a successful high school career, he received a baseball scholarship to Wayland Baptist University where he played for 3 years under Coach Brad Bass. While at WBU, he was an all conference selection 2 years in a row and broke several Pioneer and conference records. He played professional baseball for the El Paso Diablos, Sioux City Explorers, and San Angelo Colts. After 4 years in professional baseball, Coach Mendoza graduated from West Texas A&M University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sports and Exercise Sciences which included a minor in English. Mendoza then began his teaching/coaching career at Sam Houston Middle School and Fannin Middle School in Amarillo. Coach Mendoza and his wife Andrea have a 5 year old son and a 3 year old daughter. Coach Mendoza says, “I certainly don't regret my experiences because without them, I couldn't imagine who or where I would be today. Life is an amazing gift to those who have overcome great obstacles, and attitude is everything!” Coach Mendoza credits his success to his high school coaches, teachers, and family.
